An explanation of the new Aleph password policy

In order to ensure more secure passwords for our Aleph application, beginning June 27, 2011, we will require Aleph staff client passwords meet the following criteria:

  • Passwords must have both alpha and numeric characters.
  • Passwords must be between a minimum of seven and a maximum of ten characters in length.
  • Passwords must be changed every 180 days.
  • Users will be blocked if the login has not been used in 180 days.
  • Users will be blocked if there are three failed login attempts.
  • Users will receive five warnings to change their passwords before they expire.

** This policy closely follows OIT's as much as the system allows it **
