Blog from March, 2010

I'm on the hunt for an Al Gore ticket.  I know I have a very slim chance of finding a ticket.  We all heart Al.  In any case, I was wondering if you or knew of someone who had a ticket to the Al Gore talk and wasn't planning on going.  Could I by any chance take the ticket off your hands?  Pretty please.

I really appreciate your help in this!

Good luck on your MPs!!  I know I used the M word.  Dun dun dun.

Thanks!

"Greening the Southeast" Regional Summit
April 16-17, 2010
Coastal Georgia Center
305 Fahm Street
Savannah, GA 31401

From the flyer:

Come to Listen! Come to Dialogue!

Farming and Forestry - what are the real green business opportunities for small and limited-resource farmers and landowners and what are the first steps in getting started?
Non-traditional Funding Sources - if the banks and traditional funding sources will not give it to me, where can I go?
Climate Change, Renewable Energy Sources, Food Access and Watersheds - which sustainable agriculture, forestry, and green businesses should form collaboratives that will improve our regional environment and serve as a vehicle to impact policy change?
Successful Grassroots Models - who has the clean energy, climate change and environmental education/training models that are getting results in our region's rural and urban low-income communities?
Green Up Your Campus - what are the first steps necessary for our regional 1890 Land Grants and Historic Black Colleges/Universities to develop green agendas for their institutions and to set forth a plan of action for the regional community?

Turns out that my fiance has class and we can't use the Wicked tickets I picked up at the Hub.  Ours are for the Thursday April 22 show at 2 pm in the balcony.  If anyone has a pair of tickets that they'd be willing to trade please let me know...

(I know the odds are against someone wanting to trade, and we already have a taker for the tickets in that case so please no offers to buy them)

thanks

Henry

Al Gore Ticket Information

Dear Nicholas School Community,

We are thrilled to have received such a positive response to Vice
President Gore's upcoming lecture at 6 p.m., April 8, in Page
Auditorium. Due to the overwhelming number of requests for tickets, we
are instituting a different ticket distribution process to make sure
that ALL members of our Nicholas School community can attend.

*The previous Web registration process has been CANCELED to ensure a
fairer allocation, and you need to take the following steps to get your
ticket.*

We have allocated a block of reserved seating tickets so that the
members of the Nicholas School community listed below can have ONE
TICKET PER PERSON.
* Graduate Students (MEM,MF, and Nicholas School doctoral students)
* Faculty with primary appointments within the Nicholas School
* Full time staff who work at the Nicholas School

We do not have enough tickets for more than one per person because of
the seating limitations of Page Auditorium.

*To receive your ticket, you must do the following:***

* 1. Come to Hug Commons in LSRC at any of the following dates/ times:*

Wednesday, March 17 from 10:30 AM -- 1:30 PM

Thursday, March 18 from 2:30 -5:00 PM

Friday, March 19 from 2:30 -5:00 PM

*2. PRESENT YOUR DUKE ID.** Duke Cards will be swiped for enrollment
status and verification*. *No one will be issued a ticket without a
valid Duke ID. *There will be one line for faculty ticket pickup and one
line for students and staff.

*3. For those at the Marine Lab*, Belinda Williford will collect names
and ID numbers for those who wish to attend. Please send her an email or
drop by her office.

/NOTE: The event also will be simulcast to Griffith Theater in the Bryan
Center. Tickets will be required for this event and will be available
through the Duke University Box Office on March 19. For additional
information, please email: deanseries@nicholas.duke.edu.

We appreciate your enthusiasm for Vice President Gore's visit!

Thank you,

Bill Chameides

**MP MODERATORS NEEDED**

We need moderator volunteers over the course of two days at our MP Symposium scheduled for Thursday, April 8th and 9th. It's easy!

1. Sign up for a block of time, usually a couple of hours. The sign-up sheets are posted outside Enrollment Services, A116 LSRC or you can email me so that I can add you to the sheet.
2. On the day, bring a watch with you to time the presentations.
3. Introduce the speaker and their MP title. We will provide you with a schedule with the name and title of each presenter.
4. Watch the time and cue the speaker when there are 10 minutes left, 5 minutes and stopping at 15 minutes.
5. At the end of 20 minutes (after question and answer) thank the speaker and introduce the next speaker.

We'll have the directions and the "cue" cards in each room so all you have to do is show up with your watch. Introductions and timing are crucial parts of a successful MP Symposium so your help will be greatly appreciated.

Please sign up on the sheet posted outside the Enrollment Services office door (A116).

Thank you,
Adryani

Missed out on buying a sustainable name tag last semester?  Now you have another chance!  Order a name tag this week and it will be ready for pick-up after break.  Find Henry Coppola or Isabel Junkin in Hug Commons (or anywhere!) to place your order ($12 cash or check).  A minimum of 35 orders is needed; all proceeds go to the Environmental Internship Fund.  Take this opportunity to get yourself a professional name tag and contribute to EIF.  If you have questions, please contact Isabel Henry at isabel.junkin@duke.edu or henry.coppola@duke.edu.
